In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry….Ephesians 4:26
Friend, don’t be afraid to address your anger, because if you don’t, it gives the Devil a foothold to fill your mind with thoughts like this, “I deserve better. Life isn’t fair for me. Why does that person get that and i don’t? Haven’t I been faithful to God? Why is He allowing this in my life?”
Then we start to lose hope, stop praying and start daydreaming about a different life. A life that feels easier. Which makes us resent the things or people in our lives that we have anger towards. After all, we tell ourselves in our sinful unbelieving state, my life wouldn’t be this way if that person ___________________. You get the idea. All of this is sent by the enemy to steal, kill and destroy any good work of restoring and redeeming what God wants to do in your life.
Don’t believe for a second that your anger and resentment will ever produce anything life-giving. It will only annihilate and destroy. It will suck the life out of you and everything you touch. Truly, if your heart isn’t flourishing in love and forgiveness you cannot make good out of what feels bad.
So friend, find ways to offer deep forgiveness and deal with your anger before it takes root. Ask for God’s help and for others help too if you need it. Find freedom in placing your anger at the feet of God so He can now restore the things broken by sin in your life. Don’t play a hand in the devil’s tricks to further destroy, but rest with God to redeem those things in your life worn down by sin.
Lord, forgive me for my lack of faith. Instead, make me like a warrior. Transform me. Forgive me for my anger that I have let spin into resentment and make me new I pray, in Jesus name, Amen.
