Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD….(Psalm 4:5)
Letting go of something you love is hard. We all get that if we’ve ever had to sacrifice something we love for the betterment of those around us. A few years ago I had to do that in my life. It felt like something died in me, but maybe you get that because you’ve been there too. Thankfully, the sadness and grief isn’t so powerful like it was and eventually all of that turned into thankfulness for what I did have instead of gut wrenching pain over what I lost.
You see, what God has been teaching me on this journey is that sometimes, in order to truly worship Him alone, we have to offer up the things we love. Sometimes we get them back and other times we don’t. This is where our faith is truly tested with God. It’s where we learn to either say yes to Him or yes to what we’re so afraid to let go.

But we will always destroy people along the way if we don’t truly choose to let go. We’ll always forget them, neglect them and push them out of the way to keep holding onto what we want or think we need so badly. At least, that’s what I’ve seen to be true in my own life. Until I was really ready and willing to let something go, I would always use that something to beat up those around me so I could hold on a little tighter.
So friend, if you want to truly flourish in your relationships and grow as a person- let that thing go. Be willing to go with God into a hard place if that means you go to worship Him there. Truly, you’ll find that He is enough in this life.
Father, help us all to let go of the things we hold to dear. Forgive us when we make things in our lives an idol. Show us your glory as we let go and trust you, in Jesus name, Amen.
