And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people (Matthew 4:23)
As I was reading through a number of chapters in the book of Matthew this morning something stood out to me. It was this simple and yet overwhelming reality that Jesus is truly amazing. Everywhere He went He made mountains move. He healed, He restored people and He saw them.
As I was reading the story of the woman with the issue of blood who had been sick for twelve years I am always reminded that after this woman exercised faith, Jesus turned around and “saw her.” This woman would have lived as a woman unseen in her society for fear of making others unclean. Yet, Jesus did not rebuke her or cast her away, no, He saw her. Even though she was an interruption on His way to heal an important synagogue leaders daughter He valued her just the same.
What about us? Do we see people? Would people say, Wow, that man, that woman, I see Jesus working in them and it’s amazing. Do they see the power of God working in and through you for the sake of the Kingdom? Do they see people healed, restored, transformed and renewed because of your life in Christ? Do you live with a deep awareness that t’s not you who does the work, but God? Is Jesus the power behind every word spoken, every encounter and every moment to reflect God’s love to someone?
Maybe then we’d see more miracles among. We’d see more people walk away from addiction, be set free of fear and anxiety and stand firm when the storms of life shake their faith. Simply because one follower of Jesus walked in deep mercy and grace. Yes, one follower of our risen Lord made it a point to make mercy their mission.
So friend, let’s go and be amazing for Jesus. Not because we’re amazing or that we want people to think that we are, but because we want them to see Jesus in us. God will work through people that want to live a humble life of sacrifice. Won’t you join Him on that grand mission now?
Lord, truly you are amazing. Use my life to draw others to Jesus. I want them to say, “Wow, Jesus is amazing! I see her in that woman!” Let it be so, I pray, in Jesus name, Amen.
